A Brief History of Kemsing CC

Although cricket was played by the residents of Kemsing, as far back as the late 19th Century, at a variety of locations in and around the burgeoning village, it was not until Sir Mark Collet, the local landowner (whose descendants still run the estate and live in "The Big House" just outside the village), gifted The Common Field to the village in 1923, that the "Kemsing Institute Cricket Club" was formed by members of the Village Working Man's Club.

There was a wooden pavilion of sorts, which was demolished when the current pavilion was finished in 1987. The old square, in the middle of the field, which had been used for growing vegetables during WW2, made way for the one we use now.

Kemsing CC were, and are, a decent village team, with some well-known local players. They joined the Bat & Ball League in the 1990s, which folded in the early 2000s when the majority of clubs joined the Kent County Village League, which was growing in popularity. The Club still plays in that league, having started in Division 2, been down to Division 6 but, in 2025, are making a return to Division 2, with the benefit of having a varied team containing much youth AND experience! This is a result of starting a Colts section in 2010, which has grown from around 30 youngsters in 2019, to the 100 or so we have now. Coupled with the All Stars, aged between 5 and 8, we have one of the biggest youth sections in the area.

The Colts section has been very successful in recent years in all age groups, beating teams for the two big Kent League clubs in the area (you know who they are!🤣), and having 17 youngsters in the District teams and Kent Academy teams.

The Ladies Softball section was founded in 2021, when a variety of women and girls turned up, with no idea that in the next few years, they would become a very decent team! Some of the personnel may have changed, but the hardcore of the team are from the initial intake. They now play in a Kent league, coming 2nd in 2024, are in a T20 competition, have played in an indoor league this year, and will also play friendly festivals. There are quite a few local teams, and the hope is that we can start a hardball section soon, as well as having a girls' team.
